Road Transport and Highways Department Secretary ABM Amin Ullah Noori said that metro rail will be extended from Diabari to Tongi. He told this to the media from Japan on Friday.
Amin Ullah Noori said that the Prime Minister has given us instructions to bring people-friendly public transport in Dhaka by 2030. That is why metro is coming. He inaugurated Metro Rail MRT Line-6. We are hoping that Line Six will be extended to Motijheel by November. We are left with the work of extension of lines number two and six from Diabari to Tongi.
Road Secretary said, Japan will help us more. JICA has shown interest in doing our other lines. That is why the agreement with Japan has been made. Motijheel to Kamalapur operations will be completed by 2026. After this is over we will start from Diabari up-to Tongi.
Confirming the road secretary's statement, DMTCL managing director MAN Siddique told Kal Kantha that what he said is correct. The next step is to take the Metro up to Tongi as part of our plan.
As per the action plan of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the government body that manages the metro rail, all the metro stations have been commissioned in a phased manner. Along with that, the movement time is being increased step by step. Metro is scheduled to run from dawn to midnight next June.
MAN Siddique, managing director of the company, told Kal Kantha that it is not possible to say whether the train will run till evening in May. But we want to run trains from morning to night in June. Even earlier, the movement time has been increased step by step. The matter can be said after the next meeting.
